CCTV over wifi - how good can it be?

Over at 360 Vision Technology, we are always looking for great ways to enhance or envelope our kit with clever ideas from other companies.........

This post looks at the subject of wifi, or Professional Wireless, as a transport vehicle to transmit CCTV images and PTZ data, even with Audio and Alarm data too!

SilverNet Ltd is a UK company that specialise in the design and manufacture of rugged, high performance cost-effective wireless links.Why 11n?How does 11n achieve its high through of typically four times that of 802.11a?    in two ways:

 

First, it uses MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) antenna technology to transmit more data at a time. Intelligent antennas combine streams of data arriving at different times from multipath signals bouncing off buildings etc.

 Second, 11n can use channel bonding: Instead of the 20-MHz-wide channels found in previous standards, 802.11n can use 40-MHz-wide channels, which effectively doubles the data-carrying capacity.

The 11n MICRO300 Wireless Outdoor Bridge is ideal for connections up to 1KM with throughput approaching those of wired ethernet, 95Mbps. 

This exciting product is IEEE 802.11n/a standard compliant and operates at air interface speeds of up to 300 Mbps. Comes  with an integrated dual 13dBi panel antenna, equipped with POE and link quality LED.

This link has been deployed at 3.2KM acheiving a stable 50Mbps throughput. Very impressive for a unit about the size of your hand!
